The Drum Publication Group is currently accepting applications for individuals interested in Karen langauge and literature developement wishing to join our dedicated team.

1) Translator
The successful canidate for this position will require the skills to immediately take responsibility for producing Sgaw Karen and Burmese language publications of a high standard and to work to deadlines.

Job Description:

  • To translate, research and/or develope educational materials in Sgaw Karen and Burmese.
  • To assist in developing Karen dictionaries

Qualifications and Skills:

Essential
  • Strong oral and written command of Sgaw Karen, Burmese and English languages.
  • Experience in translating.
  • Able to work in Kanchanaburi, Thailand.
  • Willing to work as part of the team and able to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Typing skills in Sgaw Karen and/or Burmese languages
  • A strong dedication to helping preserve, document and develope Karen language, literature and culture.

Desirable

  • Computer skills including photoshop or similar graphic design software
  • Williness to make a long term committment to the Group
  • Experience in pre-school, primary or secondary school education.
  • Drawing skills
  • Thai, Pwo Karen or other language skills.
  • Thai national

 

2) Administrave assistant / Entry level translator
The successful canidate for this position will require an excellent foundation in language skills and a dedication to Karen language and literature development. If needed, training will be provided in the areas of organization administration and translation.

Job Description:

  • To assist the coordinator in the administration duties of the Group including book keeping, filing, purchasing, etc..
  • To assist in the publishing of Karen language educational materials.

Qualifications and Skills:

Essential
  • Strong oral and written command of Sgaw Karen, Thai and English languages.
  • Computer skill including database spreadsheets (Excel) and word processing.
  • Able to work in Kanchanaburi, Thailand.
  • Willing to work as part of the team and able to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Typing skills in Sgaw Karen, English and Thai languages
  • A strong dedication to helping preserve, document and develop Karen language, literature and culture.

Desirable

  • Experience in accounting.
  • Willing to make a long term committment to the Group
  • Thai national
